Remix Raingarden Project - City of Melbourne

Recently, ASCA Gold Member’s the City of Melbourne piloted a Remix Raingarden pop up in Fishermans Bend, reimagining how raingardens that use layers of recycled materials could do just this.

The project was borne from the winning proposal at the Department of Transport and Planning and City of Melbourne’s Fishermans Bend Innovation Challenge.

Amira Moshinsky pitched the idea of using locally generated waste materials such as concrete, organic matter, wood, glass and more to develop raingardens to manage local rainwater. Led by Amira, over the past eight months Remix Raingardens has transformed from idea to reality, with the help of students and experts at University of Melbourne, a City of Melbourne project team and support from a variety of industry partners.

The gardens have digital sensors installed which monitor conditions and help provide data that will test the performance of the different garden beds.

Visit the gardens and learn about raingardens and how they’re using technology, lab tests and observational analysis to test this big idea.
