Utilising Smart Tech and Data for Economic Development Initiatives

Maribyrnong City Council in Melbourne's Inner West has had a Smart City program in operation since 2019. With the adoption of a Smart City Strategic Framework in 2021 the level of sophistication has increased, and the city is getting smarter with its smart technology and Data. This presentation explores how Smart Data is being utilised to help plan and report back on economic development initiatives such as events and activations.

This webinar also provides a good case-study for any Local Government or organisation that are looking to do more with smart data to help make key decisions that impact on community.

About the presenters:

Bruce Marshall: Bruce is the Coordinator Economic Development & Smart Cities at Maribyrnong City Council. With over 12 years' of experience in Local Government in primarily Economic Development and Place Making roles, his move to Maribyrnong in late 2020 was his first foray into Smart Communities and has provided an opportunity integrate the different disciplines. Bruce has been on the ASCA board since January 2022 and is the current President.

Chris Laing: Chris is the Smart City Project Officer for Maribyrnong City Council. Having commenced the role in 2019, Chris has been involved in the extensive roll out of technology for the 'Smart Cities for Social Cohesion' project around the Footscray CBD area. He has an ongoing role to project manage the Smart City program and is passionate about ensuring data and technology are used meaningfully by the organisation.
